Simplify. Repeat. New Poker Copilot Update

"Check out my amazing new HUD customizer", I said excitedly to Raul, my Mac guru. He looked, then he went silent. Uh-oh, I thought. Always a bad sign.

After a lengthy pause Raul declared it unnecessary. "Why a separate screen? Why not let people move the HUD panels directly while playing?"

"That's because, um, well, let me see. There's a really good reason and that's...ah..." Damn. He was right again. The HUD customizer is a completely pointless screen.

So, as of today, you can customize the HUD while playing. Where you move the HUD windows to is where they will stay.

To get this new Poker Copilot goodness, download the latest update (1.62) now.

Other changes:

  • faster loading of large amounts of hands
  • less memory usage
  • PowerPC users should experience less grief
  • the broken "classic HUD" works once more

Thank you very much for the HUD customizing -- I was just about to file a report about the HUD boxes overlapping one of the hole card displays on the 9-person PokerStars table, and now I don't have to! Thanks for the PPC improvements as well.

While you're working on the HUD, you might consider making the "select which 6 fields show up in the HUD" preference part of the HUD itself. You could make it so you can just click or double-click on a HUD label and get a drop-down to change it to some other statistic. Or, if that's not discoverable enough, maybe integrate it into the more detailed HUD box that shows up when you click on a player's basic HUD box.

Color in the HUD labels would also be nice for readability, although it would also conflict with the "fade in as data become more reliable" effect, which I also like.

FYI, I blogged some impressions of Poker Copilot. Hopefully there's at least a sliver of useful feedback for you there, although I did wander off on a stats tangent for a while. :)

Hi, great work.

Can you update the help index on the main site on how the statistics are calculated?

I'm mostly concerned about how the fold to three bet is calculated, and whether it's only for preflop three bets.

I'm hoping to update the stats help page real soon now.
