Deadly Drugs

What drug killed via poisoning more people in the UK in 2008 than cannabis, ecstasy, cocaine and methadone combined?

Alcohol. Only heroin killed more.

That's from one of my favourite websites, Information is Beautiful.

Interesting post! And this is why Alcohol along with tobacco should probably be made illegal and cannabis and some other drugs in the tryptamine family legalised!

and you don't think these numbers would skyrocket if they were legal overnight?

Meaningless. Alcohol is not a drug. I consume it and am not addicted. Heroin is not dangereous in itselt - the lifestyle is. Less internal damage in an heroin addict than in a alcoholic proves it.
Cannabis gives psychotic behaviour despite some people like it legalised etc etc. More or less idiotic information

The numbers would increase obviously (if alcohol and tobacco were still legal), but I doubt they would reach the numbers of alcohol individually.
Smoking related diseases for cannabis such as cancer would be the same as tobacco, but cannabis is clearly the better choice of the two because it is not addictive so it is much easier to come off if you have a change of heart.

Tryptamine drugs on the other hand can sometimes be a little more dangerous and hold more risk no doubt, but providing they are used responsibly I think it would be fine. These are also not addictive, which is a plus.
They also seem to reflect your state of mind so if you are in a bad mood a bad trip is probably inevitable, but this is arguable and not for certain.

So if Cannabis and some Tryptamine drugs (Psilocybin Mushrooms, LSD, DMT) are legalised and Alcohol and Tobacco "illegalised" I believe the numbers would decrease.

And just to clarify incase if you got the wrong impression, I am NOT supportive of the legalisation of Heroin, Morphine or Cocaine.

In the USA the issue is beginning to shift to the need to control drug sales. Billions of dollars have been spent trying to eliminate drug sales with no visible effect. At the same time the drug cartels have so much money and so many guns that most smaller police departments can't begin to deal with them any more. Legalizing pot sales in a tightly controlled and taxed way would cripple the cartels and reverse the flow of money.

I know someone who died from alcoholism, but I will never think alcohol can kill you by itself.

This guy was depressed and wanted to die, he was drinking Rum-Coke every single day since he woke up until he went to bed. He was also an ex-cokehead (probably switched to alcohol and a huge amount of cigarrettes). His wife died by heroine in the early 80s heroine boom.

I dont think alcohol can kill you (unless you're driving), but its the user who kills himself if he wants to use it for autodestruction. Actually, beer and red wine are proven to be healthy.

It's like saying "food can kill you". Yeah, of course, if you're taking huge amounts daily on purpuse, you will die.
