Day 12: Google Likes Me More Every Day

I'm glad I added Google Analytics to this blog the day I started. It gives me some heartening statistics. It's great watching the upward trend in visitors. It seems there are plenty of people who enjoy reading along as I try to launch this poker app by the end of the month.

Even better, the number of people who find this site through Google Search is increasing. The search terms people use to find my site are varied. Not all have something to do with poker. Some are matching are things like "JFreeChart" and "FastSpring". But motivatingly, a significant amount of searches are for terms like "full tilt poker history parser" and "mac poker stats".

If I have a problem with Google Analytics, it's that I find it too addictive. When I get up in the morning, even before I have my first coffee, I'm scouring the latest Google Analytics reports.

You should see some of the search terms you get for a domain like monashbi.blogspot.com. Some people are very much into videos. Funky.

I used to own a site for British Nurses, a resource site with community forum.

It used to get 30,000 hits/month and 5k to 6k of new visitors every month. Most of which you don't even want to know what they were searching for! :P

I'm with you on statistics though. I want to know exactly how my websites are doing; and that's why I'm working on www.software-monitor.com. So that I can offer the same technology for web analytics for desktop software.

I've noticed though that Google hasn't indexed my 30 day challenge yet (it's index is now 8 days out of date). Since Google owns blogger, I'd have thought that your posts here get indexed on Google pretty quickly? As a result, I have absolutely zero Google traffic for my new software service (as expected if Google hasn't indexed it or my blog yet).

Do you know how quickly your posts are indexed?

Mike,

Google seems to be indexing my blog posts pronto.

Like within a few hours if you do a Google blog search, and within a couple of days for normal web searches.

I don't know why Google is being so friendly to me. But I am not going to complain.
